Layken looks strong and fine after the incident but is devastated and on the verge of losing hope. After her father’s death, the family moves to her mother’s hometown, Michigan.

Layken meets her neighbor Will, a teacher and the only guardian of his younger brother. Will is a 21-year-old guy whose life is similar to hers. In an accident, Will lost his parents two years ago. He has a younger brother to care for. He is in college and is also a high school teacher.

With grief to share and trying to be resilient for the family, they found comfort in each other. Will’s love for slam poetry attracts Layken. Eventually, they start to fall for each other.

But Will being her poetry teacher creates a hurdle in their relationship. Layken is not worried, but Will hesitates to take it forward because of his responsibilities.

The rest of the story revolves around their growing feelings for each other and how they overcome the arising problems between them.

In the second book, it is revealed that Layken’s mother dies due to her illness. Layken feels the void but tries to cope with the situation. Will and Layken are still neighbors, taking care of their younger brothers.

Their younger brothers are best friends. Will and Layken are now in college. Will is pursuing his master’s, and Layken is doing her bachelor’s. Although they are in a relationship now, they haven’t gone to the last level of intimacy.

In between the story, Will’s ex comes into the picture, creating chaos in their relationship.

There is also an unexpected revelation in the story that hugely impacts them.

The second part carries forward their developing relationship with new challenges to overcome.

3. The Girl

This is the last part of the series. Will and Layken, finally surviving all the hurdles, are now married. The story narrates their honeymoon period.

Layken wants to know everything about Will, so she demands answers. Being reserved, Will wants to avoid talking about his past.

However, he gives up as he cannot resist her pleas. He will share his stories about the past and when he met Layken.

This is the flashback of the first book, Slammed but Will narrates it. It has some bonus chapters for us, along with Will’s side of the story narration. The epilogue shows us the happy ending of the two and them having a child.
