Review of the Maximum Ride Series

James Patterson peppers the Maximum Ride series with themes and subjects that will be loved not only by his younger fans but by readers all over the world. The reason behind this is the universal nature of the themes, namely friendship, family, and love.

Throughout the series, we witness the close bonds shared by the members of the Flock, who almost seem like family. Although they often fight like siblings, they also stand by one another during the toughest of times.

Max and Fang’s relationship beautifully blossoms from friendship to love, and you want to cheer them on till the end. Despite being young individuals, the Flock members are fierce, wise, and extremely determined, and their character developments are endearing and aspirational.

The element of mystique engulfs the series throughout all the books and keeps the readers engaged and mesmerized.

Quotes

Maximum Ride Series Quotes

James Patterson has the ability to pen down memorable quotes while also giving us a world of intrigue, and the same is the case with the Maximum Ride series. A couple of the quotes to remember from this series are as follows:

“Because what’s worse than knowing you want something, besides knowing you can never have it?”

“The funny thing about facing imminent death is that it really snaps everything else into perspective.”

“There’s nothing more annoying than cold logic and reason when you’ve got a good fit going.”

“If you’re in the room, I want to be next to you. If you’re gone, I think about you. You’re who I want to talk to. In a fight, I want you at my back. When we’re together the sun is shining. When we’re apart, everything is in shades of gray.”

“Sometimes being a leader isn’t about winning. Sometimes it’s about doing what’s right, instead of what’s powerful.”

“Save your world. Love it, protect it, respect it, and don’t let the haters represent it.”

“There was freedom in the pain. It meant he was still alive, still feeling, and he felt invincible. Whatever they did to him, however hard they fought, in the end, he would win.”

“You’re the most stubborn person I’ve ever met, and sometimes it seems like your sole purpose in life is to make mine harder, but I swear, I love you more than I thought I could love anyone.”

Movies and TV Adaptations

Much like many other novels and series created by James Patterson, the Maximum Ride series has a movie adaptation associated with it as well. While the first three books lent themselves to a Marvel Comic series, the first book in the series was turned into a movie titled Maximum Ride.

Although the movie was first announced in 2007, it faced a lot of roadblocks due to the demise of the screenplay writer, Don Payne, in 2013, coupled with Catherine Hardwicke resigning as the director. It was finally submitted to be adapted in 2014, and the movie came out in August 2016.

The cast of the movie included Allie Marie Evans, Patrick Johnson, and Liliana Wray, and it was directed by Jay Martin.
